Several times every year, Google run updates to its Search Algorithm with minor – and sometimes major – enhancements to improve the search experience for its users.

Over the past week, our SEO Team witnessed sudden changes in ours and our clients’ websites, which come as no surprise to SEO specialists. And the good part is that Google didn’t leave everyone in darkness for long, as it has confirmed that a “broad core algorithm update” was run recently and that it impacted the rankings of some of the websites that are indexed on Google Search. Google Search Algorithm

On its official account on Twitter, Google tweeted that there is nothing webmasters and websites owners can do to “undo” the impacts caused by the latest algorithm update. Most importantly, Google stressed that if your website enjoyed a purge in or a boost in its ranking; this doesn’t mean that you did something specially good or bad recently; alternatively; it’s just Google who changed the way it regards websites and accordingly changed their rankings in the light of this fresh update.

Below, we’re quoting Google’s tweet on the subject:

Each day, Google usually releases one or more changes designed to improve our results. Some are focused around specific improvements. Some are broad changes. Last week, we released a broad core algorithm update. We do these routinely several times per year.

As with any update, some sites may note drops or gains. There’s nothing wrong with pages that may now perform less well. Instead, it’s that changes to our systems are benefiting pages that were previously under-rewarded.

There’s no “fix” for pages that may perform less well other than to remain focused on building great content. Over time, it may be that your content may rise relative to other pages.

So, whether your website witnessed a rise or a fall, relax. It is out of your control. Just focus on the best practices you got used to see better results with, until the SEO Community figures out what has changed to optimize accordingly.
